The Pressurised Equipment Directive was approved by the European Parliament in
May 1997, as Directive 97/23/EC. This directive forms part of the European
Economic Community programme intended to eliminate technical barriers.
Since 29th May 2002, the Pressurised Equipment Directive has been mandatory in
all countries in the European Union, replacing all existing national laws
concerning the design, manufacture and testing of pressurised equipment.
In consequence, all gas springs manufactured after this date must comply with
this Directive (97/23/EC).
SDT complies with the Pressurised Equipment Directive PED
97/23/EC, which establishes new regulatory requirements for the design,
manufacture, inspection and certification of pressurised equipment that is to
be used in the market of the European Economic Area.
In order to comply with this directive and be authorised by a Notification Body
to use the CE marking on our gas springs, the Notification Body must give its
approval, which implies verification of the design, final inspection of the
equipment, and may include an evaluation of the Quality Control System.
